RESIDENTIAL FIRE SPRINKLERS - HOMEPAGE
Thank you for viewing the Residential Fire Sprinklers website.
Our website has been designed to give you an overview of the residential sprinkler concept. It contains an explanation of the systems and how they operate, a series of powerpoint slides showing the effectivness of the systems and links to the regulatory bodies of which we are fully active members.
Our objectives are to make people aware of the life saving qualities of Residential Fire Sprinklers and the affordability of such systems.
Please contact us should you require any further information.
COMPANY PROFILE
Residential Fire Sprinklers Ltd. are a UK company with vast experience with the design and installation of residential sprinkler systems. We are established as an industry leader and have been since the emergence of residential sprinklers in the UK. Since then, we have carried out installations of many kinds, from private luxury apartments through to local authority houses of multi occupancy (HMO's).
With being one of the leaders in this field, it was in fact, our systems that both the BBC and Anglia TV featured during a live fire scenario to demonstrate the effectiveness of such systems.
We place our responsibilities and your safety at the forefront or our work. Therefore, all of our installers have been trained to the highest standards under the 'Residential Sprinkler Association' structure for Design, Installation, and Maintenance. All of the systems installed by us are in compliance with the agreed standard DD251:2000. They are fully guaranteed for 2 years and have a life expectancy of at least 50 years.
The installation process is proceeded with a full site assessment, plans are then drawn up along with quotes and full system specifications for agreement with the client. Only then will the installation of the system start. Timescales are purely dependent upon the complexity of the system and access for installation. This will be estimated prior to installation.
SPRINKLERS...THE FACTS
It is a fact that most houses which suffer major fires are seldom able to be lived in afterwards and are occasionally demolished.
Rooms that are protected by fire sprinklers can usually be back in use within a few hour after cleaning and perhaps redecoration. The rest of the house is usually unaffected.
Each of the sprinkler heads are individually triggered by the heat of the fire and will have reacted long before the Fire Brigade is even called.
Only
the sprinklers directly affected by the fire will activate (NOT all of them),
they use typically 10gal/min of water to control the fire.
You never know when or where a fire will start in your home. Fire sprinklers
are by far the most efficient and effective safety devices known, having a better
than 99% success rate worldwide.
Fire alarms and smoke detectors by themselves can only warn you of a fire, they are then dependent upon someone calling the Fire Brigade. Fire sprinklers not only warn of the fire but they also act immediately to contain and extinguish the fire.
Over 50% of all UK fire casualties are either very young, elderly, or physically impaired and cannot help themselves. So, for this reason, fire sprinklers even if they do not put out the fire, will at the very least raise the alarm and extend the time available for escape and rescue.
Modern residential sprinklers are small, neat and unobtrusive. Visitors are seldom even able to spot them.
They are available in a variety of finishes and colours to suit any décor, and are even available in concealed versions.
Residential Fire Sprinklers are NOT expensive, and typically cost £1.25 per square foot in a new-build house - less than 2% of the building cost... or about the cost of carpeting...but, unlike carpets, these systems are designed to last at least 50 years.
Fire Sprinklers are very reliable. The latest statistics show that the chances of one operating accidentally is 1:16,000,000... (one in sixteen million)...Less chance than you winning the lottery jackpot!
SPRINKLERS...OUR SYSTEMS
The Sprinkler head - These are fitted in every room except the bathroom. If the room exceeds 15 square meters then more than one may be required. The sprinklers are activated independently of each other by the heat of the fire exceeding 68° degrees Celsius. They are operated by the heat melting a solder link that enables the head to drop down and allow the water to flow. Typically, these are only 8-10 cm's in diameter, fit flush to the ceiling and are very unobtrusive.
The Control Panel - This can be positioned anywhere within the dwelling, connected to the mains electrical supply via a 240 volt switched spur. It has an internal sounder and battery backup system, with anti-tamper control. This will operate and monitor the whole system 24 hours a day.
The
External Audio / Strobe Box - Sited externally of the property in a prominent
position, this will alert the general public to a fire within the property in
the event of a sprinkler activation. Using a loud siren and a strobe light ensures
that it is highly visible.
The Water Supply - The Sprinklers are attached to the same water supply that
is already installed within the property. This supply must be able to provide
a pressure of not less than 0.5 bar and a flow of 84 l/min. Due to its design,
the installation will not interfere with the domestic water supply to the rest
of your property.
Frequently
Asked Questions...
I already have smoke detectors on every floor, so why do I need these?
Thats a good start...But they will only warn you of a fire. You then have to react upon this warning to extinguish it, therefore placing yourself at great risk of injury or even death. What if you are disabled, hard of hearing or partially sighted? These systems are a life saver.
How much will it cost me?
This is really dependent upon the specification and extent of the system required in your property. There is no magic formula for you to use, so please contact us for a competitive quote.
Will there be much disruption during installation?
There will be a certain amount of disruption, yes. We will need access to the ceiling voids (via upstairs floorboards), the loft, somewhere to install the control panel and access to get a supply of both electricity and water. We will however endeavour to be as un-disruptive as possible!
Is there any chance of the sprinklers will go off accidentally?
The modern systems that we use are manufactuered and tested to the highest standards and are designed to be installed in the home. The chances of an accidental actuation have been estimated at 1:16,000,000 (one in sixteen million).
Will there be water throughout the house if theres a fire in one room?
No. Each sprinkler head will only work if directly affected by a fire. It is not the case that 'one goes off...all go off'.
In the event of a fire, will there be lots of water damage?
In terms of comparing water damage to the devestating effects of an uncontrolled fire...then no. There will be water, but much, much less damage than will be caused by a fire or by the water used by the fire service.
Will it affect my household insurance policies?
You will need to contact your insurance company direct. These systems are becoming more popular and their benefits are slowly being realised by such companies but some may not have yet amended their policy on sprinkler systems.
